PESHAWAR: Lawyers here on Wednesday observed strike against the suicide bombing outside Islamabad district courts and in solidarity with their colleagues in Islamabad.

They mostly stayed away from proceedings before Peshawar High Court and its subordinate courts in attached districts and tehsils.

The strike call was jointly given by Peshawar High Court Bar Association and Peshawar Bar Association in consultation with the members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council.

A meeting of PHCBA executive council chaired by its president Aminur Rehman Yousafzai was also held that condemned terrorist attack on Islamabad district courts and Cadet College Wana, South Waziristan.

The participants of the meeting said that such terrorist attacks threatened the peaceful atmosphere of legal fraternity as well as education of innocent tribal children.

PHCBA demanded transparent investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators and also called upon the administration to enhance security measures.

Similarly, the cabinet of PBA headed by its president Qaiser Zaman condemned the Islamabad bombing, which had left around 12 persons killed and scores of others injured.

The cabinet members including its general secretary Zahidullah Zahid and others termed the incident a security lapse and a failure of government to maintain law and order and provide security to its people.

Meanwhile, senior lawyers including PHCBA general secretary Ashfaq Daudzai, BabarKhan Yousafzai, Yasir Khattak, Isaac Ali Qazi and others condemned the incident, stating that instead of providing security to people the federal government was busty in passage of constitutional amendments.

They demanded of the government to enhance security measures so as to thwart acts of terrorism and also arrest the elements involved in such heinous acts.
