KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed immediate release of Sindh’s Rs2.59 billion share to speed up progress on road dualisation project between Tando Allahyar and Tando Adam (31.4 km), a Rs9.28 billion scheme.
He also issued instructions to concerned departments for timely completion of major road projects undertaken by the federal and provincial governments and assisted by foreign bodies.
Presiding over a high-level meeting on the province’s development portfolio, the CM said road infrastructure forms the backbone of Sindh’s economic development and must be completed within set deadlines.
“People of Sindh must see tangible progress on the ground. Our priority is to complete projects that directly serve the public and strengthen regional connectivity,” he emphasised.
The meeting reviewed the Sindh Coastal Highway (36 km) — Rs3.7 billion project, with Rs2.6 billion federal and Rs1 billion provincial share. The CM termed it a “strategic lifeline” for coastal development and directed its completion by June 2027; Rohri–Guddu Barrage Road (105 km) — Rs17.79 billion project connecting upper Sindh with southern Punjab.
The meeting also discussed the 135km Mehran Highway (Nawabshah–Ranipur) —Rs41.03 billion corridor vital for intra-provincial trade. The CM instructed its completion by June 2027 and Sanghar–Rohri via Mudh Jamrao and Salehput (221km) — Rs35.08 billion project with Rs1.12 billion provincial share. The CM said the road would “open new opportunities for rural communities and boost agricultural trade”.
ADB-assisted programme
The chief minister also reviewed the ADB-assisted Sindh Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project (EFAP) — a Rs48.4 billion initiative covering 724km of flood-damaged roads, approved by Ecnec in December 2022 and launched in January 2024.
So far, 538km have been completed, with 96 per cent of the provincial share —Rs4.25 billion — utilised. The revised PC-I, under consideration, expands the scope to 873km with an updated cost of Rs62.53 billion, reflecting additional works and tax adjustments.
“The ADB-funded reconstruction demonstrates Sindh’s resolve to rebuild smarter and stronger roads after the floods,” the CM said, directing the timely release of additional funds and completion by June 2026.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development, the CM said: “We are determined to modernise Sindh’s infrastructure, promote regional connectivity, and deliver projects that enhance resilience and long-term growth.”
