RAWALPINDI: A man was gunned down by unidentified persons in Chaklala area on Tuesday night. However, the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained, police said.

Yousuf Khan, son of the deceased Sher Khan, told the police that they work as a labourer. He said that two unidentified persons came on a motorcycle when his father was sitting outside his house and opened fire on him and fled.

The man was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he was pronounced dead.The victim suffered two bullets in his chest, one bullet each on leg and right arm which claimed his life. The motive behind the murder was being investigated by the police.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man who allegedly murdered his wife over a family dispute in Rawat one week ago, and sought his remand for further investigation. A mother of a three-year-old daughter was killed allegedly by her husband over a family dispute in Dhoke Ghulam Ali Rawat last Wednesday.

Adam Khan, a resident of Dhoke Ghulam Ali, father of the deceased had lodged an FIR with the police saying that he is a laborer and daughter Zardana Bibi, 25, was married to Nazar Khan four year ago and the couple was blessed with a daughter who is three-year-old now.

He further said in the FIR since his son-in-law is matrilocal and had been working as a driver of an excavator machine. He said that his son-in-law came to his house six days ago and stayed with them.

He said that as per routine, the couple with their infant daughter slept in their room on Tuesday night but at about 2am he heard screaming of their daughter from their room. On hearing her screaming, he went with his brother and son to their room and found Nazar Khan carrying a knife and was slaying his daughter lying on her bed.

A police team, led by ASI Malik Abdul Qayyum traced the suspect after week-long efforts and rounded him up from his native town Sri-Alamgir and produced him in the court of law for physical remand.
