Govt plans to spend over Rs350bn to maintain public order
ISLAMABAD: The federal government plans to spend Rs351.67 billion on public order and safety affairs, with the bulk of the amount going to Rangers, Frontier Constabulary (FC) and other civil armed forces.
The budget 2025-26 document reveals that Rs321.17 billion had been earmarked for the federal police and the civil armed forces, seeing an increase of around Rs35 billion.
The document shows that Rs451.71 million had been earmarked for the National Police Academy Islamabad, with Rs317.68 million going to employee-related expenses and Rs134.02 million fixed as operating expenditure of the academy.
It further revealed that under the head of ICT Islamabad, Rs17.26 billion had been allocated for the capital police as well as security of the city. Whereas, in the outgoing fiscal year, the capital police had spent Rs18.99 billion.
The budget allocations include expenditures incurred by the police stations of the city, Special Branch and other allied departments.
For the flagship programme, the Safe City Islamabad, Rs356.22 million have been allocated in the upcoming fiscal year. Incidentally, Rs254.80 million was allocated for the project in the outgoing fiscal but at the end of the year Islamabad police spent Rs2.07 billion on the project.
The budget of Islamabad traffic police for 2025-26 has been fixed at Rs60 million, while Rs713 million were allocated for the counter-terrorism department (CTD) Islamabad, with Rs650 million meant for salaries of 30 officers and 994 other staff.
Besides, the federal government will spend Rs564.76 million on the Frontier Constabulary Islamabad, out of which Rs533.29 million will go into paying salaries and allowances of officers and staff. The annual operating expenditure of FC Islamabad has been fixed at Rs29.66 million.
Meanwhile, one of the key departments of the federal capital, the Islamabad Food Authority, has been allocated Rs34.37 million out of which Rs22.85 million has been earmarked for salaries of its 28 employees including 15 officers and 13 staff. The operating expenditure of the authority has been fixed at Rs9.87 million.
On the other hand, the total budget of the district judiciary Islamabad is Rs1.76 billion, which includes four courts of the senior civil judge East and the district and sessions judge East. The other two courts are of senior civil judge West and the district and sessions judge West.
The annual budget of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) is Rs1.05 billion which includes its operating expenditure of Rs398.51 million.
The budget of the combined civil armed forces has been fixed at Rs274.15 billion. The forces include FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FC Balochistan, Punjab Rangers and Sindh Rangers.
