The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), the Commission of Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’, and Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association have released a joint statement on World Press Freedom Day, Al Jazeera reports.

The statement said more than 200 journalists have been killed and about 180 arrested or detained since October 7, 2023.

Israel continues to hold 49 of them today, it said.

“The targeting of Palestinian journalists has been and remains one of the most prominent policies of the occupation throughout its history,” the statement also said.

It added that “the assassination operations” on journalists have escalated “in an unprecedented manner” during Israel’s war on Gaza.
