Plan to set up special police stations to curb profiteering

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Tuesday decided to set up police stations specifically to take action against profiteers.

The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Syed Waqar Mehdi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM) on CM’s Inspection Team.

“It was decided to take action against profiteers across the province of Sindh,” said a statement issued after the meeting which was attended by SACM on Bureau of Supply and Prices Usman Ghani Hingoro, secretary Suhail Ahmed Qureshi and others .

During the meeting, SACM Hingoro stated that steps would be taken to establish police stations dedicated to taking action against illegal profiteers. These police stations would be staffed by personnel from the Bureau of Supply and Prices, along with police constables.

He further emphasised the need to stabilise the prices of essential commodities and prevent hoarding.

It was also decided that all warehouses would be registered before Ramazan, special stalls offering discounted prices would be set up in bachat bazaars and the notified prices of fruits and vegetables would be enforced.

SACM Hingoro reiterated that police stations dedicated to dealing with hoarders and profiteers would be established to ensure appropriate action against them.
