RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police have installed a pedestrian signal at the GPO Chowk Saddar in an attempt to improve pedestrian safety and regulate the traffic system.

It is the first such development to improve the traffic situation as people have been facing immense problems while moving in the Saddar area due to closure of Bank Road and huge traffic mess.

A spokesperson for the City Traffic Police said following special efforts of Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima, the pedestrian signal was installed keeping in mind the convenience and security of the citizens.

Since the GPO Chowk Saddar is one of the busiest places in the city, this signal will help pedestrians cross the road safely and will also help in improving the flow of traffic and preventing accidents.

The CTO said the project was not only a step towards modernising the infrastructure of the city but also an important development towards ensuring the safety of the lives and property of the citizens.

She said the scope of installation of the pedestrian signals will be extended to other places to facilitate pedestrians, adding an attempt had been made to promote the observance of traffic laws by citizens.

The pedestrian signal has been installed not only to protect the pedestrians but also to provide guidance to drivers to avoid accidents, she said.

The CTO appealed to the citizens to respect the modern facility and adhere to the traffic rules.

She said the success of the initiative would be impossible without the cooperation of the public, adding only with the participation of citizens the dream of safe and organised traffic can be realised.

The traffic police have also launched a special campaign for public awareness about the use of pedestrian signals. This campaign will be launched on social media, TV channels, newspapers, CTP FM Radio, and other media outlets.
