German embassy celebrates unity day

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Islamabad marked German Unity Day with a reception on Thursday night.

This annual event commemorates the reunification of East and West Germany on October 3, 1990, which was a historic milestone that ended 41 years of division, uniting the German people into one nation.

German Ambassador to Pakistan, Alfred Grannas, addressed the gathering, reflecting on the profound significance of German reunification and the nation’s progress since that transformative time. He highlighted Germany’s journey over the past three decades, celebrating achievements and the strengthening of international bonds.

He underscored decades long cooperation of the past and hoped for improved relations for decades to come.

The German Embassy warmly welcomed a diverse group of guests, including members of the Pakistani and international communities. Attendees included German business leaders, foundation representatives, and delegates from diplomatic, military, political, economic, humanitarian, and media sectors, underscoring the strong and enduring ties between Germany and Pakistan.

The Embassy expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who joined the celebration, noting that their presence and participation contributed to a memorable and inspiring German Unity Day celebration.

Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari speaking as chief guest said that this year’s theme reflected the spirit of unity, forward looking optimism, symbolising Germany’s commitment to collective progress and togetherness as a nation.

“It is imperative that Pakistan and Germany move forward in economic and commercial domain by creating people to people contacts,” he said emphasizing on the passionate belief in the positive friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Guests delighted in a blend of Pakistani and German delicacies crafted by Serena Hotel’s Executive Chef, Pathmanathan Balagangdaram.

Adding to the ambiance, the evening featured enchanting and soulful instrumental performances by Soz o Saaz, a talented group of young musicians, creating an unforgettable cultural experience.
