90pc of buildings on Gaza’s eastern border destroyed or damaged: UN
About 90 per cent of approximately 4,000 buildings located along Gaza’s eastern border have been destroyed or damaged, Al Jazeera reports citing a preliminary analysis of satellite imagery from the UN Satellite Centre (Unosat).
“Satellite imagery shows a sharp increase in the number of damaged and destroyed buildings within the one-kilometre stretch of land along the border of the Gaza Strip west of the Armistice Demarcation Line,” the UN’s latest humanitarian update says, citing the satellite analysis.
Of the 4,042 buildings in the satellite imagery taken on February 29:
- 3,033 had been destroyed
- 593 were severely or moderately damaged
- 416 had no damage visible through satellite imagery
By contrast, only 15 per cent of these buildings were damaged as of October 15, 2023.
