Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari has said fighter jets attacked “three military operatives” in central Gaza, referring to a car carrying Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s children, who were killed earlier today, Al Jazeera reports.

The Israeli army “confirms” that they are “the children of Ismail Haniyeh”, Hagari said.

A video, verified by Al Jazeera and circulating on social media, shows the moment Haniyeh received the news of the killing of his children and grandchildren.

The Hamas leader was visiting wounded Palestinians who were evacuated from Gaza to receive treatment at a hospital in Doha, Qatar. He appeared to repeat a phrase used in final farewells: “May God ease their path.”
