Biden’s plan for temporary port in Gaza questioned: analysis

United States President Joe Biden’s plan to build a temporary port in Gaza to deliver more aid to the enclave has raised a host of practical and logistical questions, Al Jazeera reports.

Luciano Zaccara, an associate professor at Qatar University’s Gulf Studies Center, told Al Jazeera the plan is likely to face serious difficulties due to Israel’s control over the flow of aid into Gaza.

“Most probably this idea will be discarded … when they realise it is not possible, when they realise they need, as everybody mentions, the agreement from the Israeli government, and it will be managed by Israel,” Zaccara said.

“So nothing is going to change. At the end of the day, Israel is preventing aid from entering through Rafah. It is going to stop it entering from the sea as well.”
