UN experts urge governments to respect right to peaceful protests in support of Gaza
A group of nine independent UN human rights experts have issued a statement calling on governments to protect the right to peaceful protests in solidarity with people in Gaza, Al Jazeera reports.
The experts, including UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Association and Assembly Clement Voule, urged states to respect the rights to peaceful protest and expression “as the international community takes steps towards negotiating a ceasefire that will end brutal hostilities in Gaza”.
The statement did not include specific examples but pro-Palestinian supporters have experienced arrests, violence and bans on holding protests in countries including the United States and Germany.
