Israel’s ex-military chief says his leadership should be examined in October 7 probe

Speaking at a military memorial event, Aviv Kohavi said he should not be exempt from scrutiny when Israel probes military failures leading up to Hamas’ October 7 attack, Al Jazeera reports, citing The Times of Israel.

“I constantly ask myself what we could have done differently”, said Khoavi, according to The Times of Israel.

Kohavi, who led Israel’s military from January 2019 to January 2023, said a comprehensive investigation was needed to determine how Israel’s security wall was totally “completely breached” by Hamas on Oct 7. This would “of course” look cover the period in which he led the military, he said.

Moving forward, Israel must also “re-examine the perception of war and security, along with peace and agreements”, said Kohavi.
