The Civil Defense spokesman in Gaza has issued a statement. Al Jazeera provides a quick breakdown of what it says:

  • Israeli forces have bombed infrastructure and civil defence structures that have affected their ability to operate effectively.
  • Five members of the civil defence have been arrested by Israeli forces.
  • The civil defence did not receive enough fuel, disrupting 70pc of its operational capabilities.
  • The civil defence is in need of vital equipment, including 18 fire trucks, in order to help people stuck under the rubble.
  • The civil defence calls on international institutions, in particular from Arab states, to provide professional support and the international community to act immediately in order to stop the war.
  • More than 8,000 Palestinians in Gaza are missing and tens of thousands have been displaced.
