New wave of displacement as Palestinians flee from central Gaza Strip
Following a harsh night in which artillery shelling and violent clashes did not stop, the Israeli army has expanded its military operations inside the Central Governorate, where Israeli tanks were seen at the northern entrances to al-Maghazi Governorate, Al Jazeera’s Maram Humaid reports.
This morning, thousands of citizens were seen fleeing from the Bureij, Maghazi and Nuseirat governorates into Deir al-Balah.
The Israeli army announced, in its leaflets dropped by warplanes, that its forces were operating intensively in these areas, and called on its residents to immediately evacuate to the city of Deir al-Balah, considering that these areas had become a “dangerous combat zone.”
These new warnings forced many families to leave their homes urgently, and another large displacement movement was observed from the centre of the Gaza Strip, towards the areas of Deir al-Balah and the southern city of Rafah.
The residents left in a hurry on trucks and animal-drawn carts, carrying few belongings, and heading to new places of displacement.
