(EDITORIAL) The Government of India have announced that as a result of the inquiry conducted by them into the allegations against the Maharaja of Alwar, the latter has been “exonerated”. [According to the inquiry report] “the Government of India are much gratified to announce that it has been established to their satisfaction that His Highness was not concerned in any such activities (of the RSS)”. We venture to suggest that whoever drafted the communique did not believe a word of what he was writing.

The foul deeds of some of the Princes, among whom the Maharaja of Alwar can claim the pride of place, are now matters of wide public knowledge. We published in these columns a few months ago the text of a circular which he had sent round shortly before partition to some of the other Princes inviting them to a special conference at his palace in Alwar with a view to concerting measures to restore the Hindu character of “Bharatvarash” on the termination of British rule. The plan to exterminate Muslims from this and other states was put into execution shortly after this conference.
