Pilac plans to expand its museum

LAHORE: The Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture (Pilac) is planning to represent every district of the province through its Punjab Cultural Museum.

However, since the inception of the museum in 2008 there has not been a post of a curator for it and charge of the museum is being held by various officials of Pilac.

Pilac Director General Dr Sughra Sadaf told Dawn on Friday, “The institute does not have a seat for the curator; however, the finance department has now understood the issue and the institute might be able to create a seat for this purpose in July”.

Dr Sadaf said the museum reflected Punjab’s magnificent cultural heritage while classical poetry books by eminent Sufi poets of Punjab had been added to its collection.

She said some paintings by noted artist Aslam Kamal depicting poetry of Sufi poets from Punjab were also a part of the museum. The verses include Bulleh Shah’s Ilmoon Bas Kereen O Yar and Sultan Bahu’s Alif Allah Chambay Di Booti.

Sughra Sadaf said Pilac was trying hard to upgrade the museum representing different districts of the province.

“We are expecting funding from the Punjab government in this regard and we shall add more colour and objects to the museum representing the rich cultural heritage of Punjab,” she added.
