ISLAMABAD: The capital police got students to check the written test given by over 30,000 candidates seeking jobs in the force, Dawn has learnt.

According to sources, the services of 150 students of Khyber Medical University (Islamabad campus) and 100 students of Quaid-i-Azam University were taken to check over 30,000 papers. Vehicles were arranged by the police to pick and drop the students, they added.

The papers were checked at the auditorium of the National Police Academy from 11am till 7pm, they said, adding that lunch was also served to them.

A key was given to each student to check papers comprising 70pc objective and 30pc subjective questions, sources said, adding that the subjective part of the paper included two questions.

The tests of the candidates were conducted at Jinnah Stadium in Sports Complex on Dec 31 and that stadium was jampacked to its capacity during the written test.

Over 30,000 candidates appeared in the test against the 1,667 vacant seats of constables, they said, adding that in light of the marks obtained by the candidates, the first 5,001 candidates will be called for the interview (three against one seat).

After the interview, the final list of 1,667 successful candidates will be made and announced. Earlier, a committee was formed for recruitment against the 1,667 seats, which worked under tremendous pressure.

The announcement of the final candidates will be made with signature of the assistant inspector general of police (establishment), the sources said.

On Dec 29, the AIG establishment, who also has additional charge of SSP Logistics was (all of sudden) transferred by IGP Akbar Nasir Khan and the most junior officer was appointed in his place.

This move raised quite a few eyebrows casting doubts over transfers at a time when the final selection is in its last stages.

Besides this, rent of containers and vehicles along with meals, fuel and so on during the PTI long march has also reached the SSP Logistic office for approval and signature.

In-charge of the Police Public Relations Branch DIG Awais Ahmed when contacted and asked about the transfer, said the AIG was the most competent officer and was given an important office.
