Shangla boy jumps into Indus to end life

SHANGLA: A 14-year-old boy committed suicide by jumping into the Indus River from a bridge in Dandai area of Bisham tehsil here on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan identified the boy as Hameed Khan, 14, of Dehrai area of Chakesar.

He quoted his family members as saying that Hameed left home early in the morning for Thakot Bazaar to buy groceries, but did not return. The rescue official said search for the body was continuing.

BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION: Work on a major bridge connecting several village councils of Bisham and Alpuri tehsils started on Sunday. The provincial government has allocated Rs40 million for the project.

The work opening ceremony was held in Sasobay area, where PTI district president Liaqat Ali Yousafzai was the chief guest. Alpuri tehsil chairman Waqar Ahmad Khan was also present.

On the occasion, Mr Yousafzai said provincial minister for labour and parliamentary affairs Shaukat Yousafzai had allocated Rs40 million for the bridge, and the contractor had been asked to complete the bridge within three months.

He said the bridge was crucial for people for crossing the Khan Khwar River.

Waqar Ahmad said they would fulfill all the promises made with the people.
