Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists dedicated to Arshad Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Tuesday announced that it was dedicating the ‘International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists’ to Arshad Sharif who was killed under suspicious circumstances in Kenya.

The day is observed on Nov 2 every year as a reminder of the killings of two French journalists in Mali in 2013.

PFUJ President Afzal Butt and Secretary General Arshad Ansari, in a joint press statement, said, “We have joined hands with Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights (PCHR) and Peace and Justice Network (PJN) to commemorate this day to end impunity to crimes against journalists.”

The PFUJ will hold a dialogue in collaboration with the PCHR and PJN at the National Press Club on Wednesday (today) and try to devise a strategy to counter threats of violence and crimes against journalists.
