KARACHI: A promise of equal citizenship to all in Pakistan, irrespective of caste, creed or colour, was given by Qaed-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, President of the Pakistan Constituent Assembly in his first Presidential address from the Chair today [Aug 11]. He was replying to congratulations showered upon him by his own Party leaders and Opposition leaders on his unanimous election to the Presidentship. [He] … expressed his determination not to tolerate any kind of nepotism or jobbery or any influence brought to bear upon him directly or indirectly. He advised the people to accept the division of India as the inevitable and only solution of the constitutional problem of India… . He asked the minorities and others to bury the hatchet and work in a spirit of co-operation and assured them of equal rights, privileges and obligations and further declared that if they worked in this spirit in the course of time all these vulgarities of communal and provincial differences and prejudices would vanish.

[Meanwhile, as reported from Rawalpindi,] Arrangements for shifting the GHQ of the Land and Air Forces of the Dominion of Pakistan are proceeding at top speed. The present and former officials of the Northern Command H.Q., Rawalpindi, are being overhauled to accommodate the new officers.
