KOHAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a safe blood transfusion centre for Kohat at a cost of Rs80 million.
Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, district development advisory committee chairman MPA Ziaullah Bangash said the funds for the centre had been allocated in the budget.
He said the centre would be equipped with modern equipment and well-trained staff.
He said earlier the patients needing regular transfusions had to travel to Peshawar, but now they would avail the facility at their doorstep.
Mr Bangash said the centre would greatly help the patients suffering from blood cancer and children with bone-marrow problem.
The lawmaker said the centre would collect blood from voluntary donors, adding blood camps would also be arranged in educational institutions, medressahs and other public places.
He said the blood would be screened for hepatitis B, C, Aids, syphilis and malaria.
VOTER REGISTRATION: Social activists and local body members have asked regional election commissioner Adnan Bashir to arrange Nadra mobile vans in villages to help the elderly people get addresses of their new settlements of migration included in the national computerised identity cards to register as voters.
Talking to the officials of the regional office of Election Commission of Pakistan during his visit to display centres in Gumbat, Lachi, Kohat and Darra Adamkhel tehsils, they complained that in-charges of display centres were not registering their new addresses because they had not been indicated on their Computerised National Identity Cards.
Mr Bashir told the delegation that the section 27 of the Election Act dealt with the change of address. Therefore, he said either the permanent or the temporary address must be of a new area of migration.
He said that people could also become eligible voters after entering the address of the area where they had a job.
Mr Bashir told them that they should ask the local officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan or the elected members to send the schedule of the visit of mobile vans to National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for an early change of their addresses by June 30.
