Woman impersonating naval officer arrested in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A woman pretending to be a naval officer was arrested from outside the Naval Headquarters on Monday.

Originally from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), the woman had been living in a hostel in Islamabad and had told her family that she was in the navy even though she was employed somewhere else, police said.

The officer investigating the case, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Waqas Ahmed, said the woman had appeared for the ISSB but did not qualify. However, she told her family that she had passed the test and had joined the navy, ASI Ahmed said, adding that she had been sending money to her parents regularly.

“The woman wore the uniform of a naval officer and asked her father to pick her up from the naval headquarters but was caught by the security personnel deployed at the gate,” he said, adding that after failing to produce a service card, she was taken into custody and shifted to Margalla police station for legal proceeding.

The ASI said she had introduced herself as a medical officer stationed at PNS Karzaz Karachi to the personnel deployed at headquarters’ gate.

A case was registered against her under sections 170 and 171 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Later, she was released on bail as she was booked under bailable charges, Mr Ahmed added.
