Shopkeepers of fire-hit Saddar markets assured of compensation

KARACHI: Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has said that work on providing compensation to the affectees of Cooperative Market and Victoria Building is under way.

All their losses would be compensated as soon as possible under specific instructions of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, he told representatives of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) during a visit on Saturday.

He said that regardless of whether it was an accident or an act of terror, it was the responsibility of the government to compensate such losses and “we will do it”. He, however, admitted that the process had been delayed.

Businessmen Group chairman Zubair Motiwala appealed to the Sindh government to immediately announce relief in the shape of compensation to the affectees so that they could completely restore their businesses before the arrival of Ramazan and Eidul Fitr.
