Death of patient due to negligence: Entire Services admin stands united against four YDA members

LAHORE: All admin officers of the Services Hospital have sought a strict departmental action against four young doctors for attacking the office of the medical superintendent of the institute and closing the emergency ward.

The 23 admin officers of the institute, including nine additional medical superintendents (AMSs) and 14 deputy medical superintendents (DMSs), called an emergent meeting at the hospital committee room to condemn the violent attack by four members of the Young Doctors Association (Punjab) on the MS and their ugly act to shut the emergency.

The YDA members were held guilty of negligence which led to the death of a young patient at the Services Hospital on Jan 14 after he was left unattended for an hour or so.

The CCTV footage showed the patient walking to the emergency with a minor complaint whereas the doctors declared him ‘received dead’ to conceal their criminal negligence.

After seeing the footage, the medical superintendent held Dr Salman Haseeb, Dr Mohammad Imran, Dr Salman Sarwar and Dr Mahmoodul Hassan main culprits and recommended to the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), the University of Health Sciences, the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and the Punjab Health Department to take strict action.

On this, the young doctors allegedly attacked the office of the MS, misbehaved with him and used abusive language, an official said.

In their unanimous resolution, the admin officials condemned the conduct of the four young doctors and requested the health authorities to take exemplary action.

According to the resolution, all the admin officers of the institute showed solidarity with the MS and declared the mob violence a shameful and unlawful act.

They said the young doctors had used blatant and abusive language against the MS and other senior admin officers to exert pressure on them for excluding their names from the inquiry report.

The admin officers said the young doctors had defamed the hospital and medical profession.

“We demand an exemplary punishment under the rules and regulations against the young doctors for shutting down accident and emergency department, ignoring the fact that treatment is a constitutional right of each patient,” reads the resolution.
