Shehbaz raps govt for hike in petroleum prices

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Shehbaz Sharif castigated the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government for further increasing prices of petroleum products.

In a tweet on Sunday, the opposition leader in the National Assembly termed the latest hike of over Rs3 per litre in the petrol prices economic terrorism against the masses.

He said the government had not passed on the relief to the masses when oil prices dropped in the international markets, but it hiked the rates of petroleum products quickly when the prices surged in the world markets.

He chided Prime Minister Imran Khan for raising the prices, giving an impression that he (the PM) was doing good to the people.

He lamented that a government which was “inept, incompetent and soaked in corruption” pushed the people into a swamp of inflation.

Meanwhile, the PML-N’s Punjab president Rana Sanaullah chided Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid for what he called an insult of the 23 victims of the Murree tragedy by saying that the death toll at the hill station could have been higher had the minister not visited the site.

“The statement of the political orphan insulting the martyrs of Murree is a manifestation of his heartlessness, which is regrettable,” he said.

He said those who could not even run the snow blowers purchased during the Shehbaz Sharif’s government could only pay lip service to the people.

Referring to Sheikh Rashid’s statement that nothing was in place at Murree, he said: “I believe that Imran Khan’s peon will dig the political grave for his master.”

Commenting on transfers of some government officials in the wake of Murree tragedy, Rana Sana said there had been enough bureaucratic reshuffles and “now it was the time to transfer Imran Niazi himself”.
