ISLAMABAD: The twin cities reported 144 new dengue patients during the last 24 hours.

According to District Health Officer Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia, 61 cases were detected in the capital out of which 42 came from the rural areas and 19 from the urban localities. As many as 24 were admitted to Holy Family Hospital, five were in Pims, four in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and three each were under treatment in Polyclinic and Capital Hospital, Dr Zia said, adding that 22 patients were admitted to various private hospitals.

The DHO further said 21 patients were brought to hospitals from Tarlai, followed by 10 from Koral, three each from Tarnol and Alipur, two from Sohan and one each from Bhara Kahu, Sihala and Rawat.

The tally of dengue fever cases in Islamabad has reached 1,403, with 937 surfacing in the rural areas and 466 coming from the urban towns.

During the last 24 hours, indoor residual spray was carried out in 134 housesand 256 fogging activities were conducted in different areas to eliminate potential breeding sites, the DHO said, adding that teams of the District Health Office also detected 1,222 potential breeding sites and eliminated them.

The teams also visited 2,108 houses in different union councils and found dengue larvae in 20, Dr Zia added.

On Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner Secretariat Aneel Saeed supervised the anti-dengue activities in Red Zone and Bhara Kahu.

Rawalpindi

As many as 83 people in the garrison city contracted dengue virus on Wednesday, taking the tally of patients to 681.

At present, a total of 247 beds have been allocated for dengue patients in government-run hospitals, with 150 beds in Holy Family Hospital, 30 beds in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 67 in District Headquarters Hospital.

However, so far, 176 beds were occupied in the three hospitals - 102 in Holy Family Hospital, 12 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 62 in District Headquarters Hospital.

According to a health official, 83 new patients arrived out of whom two were in critical condition. The total number of patients in Rawalpindi has reached 176.
