SUKKUR: Veteran Pakistan Peoples Party leader and former leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has proposed legislation against a ruling which fails to implement at least 40pc of its manifesto after coming to power.

He was speaking to the media at the Sukkur Accountability Court, where he was brought by police from the central jail for the hearing of a mega corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau against him, his family members and business associates.

The court adjourned the hearing to Oct 15 after recording statements of prosecution witnesses. Mr Shah’s sons provincial minister Syed Owais Shah and MPA Syed Farrukh Shah as well as some other accused nominated in the reference also appeared in the court.

Mr Shah told the media that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf had failed so far in fulfilling most of the promises made to the general public in its manifesto. “The parliament should enact a law under which a ruling party that fails to implement at least 40pc of its manifesto should be disqualified or disbanded,” he suggested.

The senior PPP leader wondered that Prime Minister Imran Khan was not ready to take the opposition on board on certain key issues although, according to Mr Shah, “all those concerned and even the army chief have been advising him to take decisions on national issues in consultation with opposition”.
