LinkedIn making networking easy

THERE has been an extensive effect of technology on individuals and societies. In recent times, owing to the ongoing pandemic, a shift towards technology has been a bit more in all areas of life, and career growth is not an exception.

The concept of social networking, in terms of efforts by individuals to build sustainable associations with others bearing a tendency and willingness to provide them support in the work or career, is nothing new. Moreover, the virtual social networking had already gained considerable attention with the inception of widespread use of the internet. The situation has become intense nowadays and people are more inclined towards the use of social networking sites (SNSs) as a strategy related to career growth.

One of the most popular professional SNS is LinkedIn with more than 650 million users spread globally. Instead of the traditional ways, like face-to-face networking, LinkedIn provides a platform for the individuals to search a job or receive an offer of a new job. Companies also use it to advertise their offerings.

One significant and commonly discussed shortcoming of an SNS, such as LinkedIn, is its questionable ability to determine accurate information regarding personality assessment, especially with reference to the prevailing social mistrust.

The fact is that LinkedIn has the potential to offer hints regarding the personal attitude of an applicant/candidate essential to enable employers to make a decision about a candidate’s selection.

LinkedIn has the ability to replace / reduce the paper work essential for getting a job (or offering a position) and is certainly evolving as an alternative to the conventional selection process for companies when properly amalgamated with the online in-person interviews.

In addition to making the choice for both the employers and the employees easier, LinkedIn can bring scholars and professionals closer by providing the option of exchanging ideas, sharing newer research and debate via discussion groups.

A relatively novel idea is the real opportunity of furnishing professional trainings. If that takes roots, LinkedIn will be offering a delightful prospect to get along with like-minded people following social distancing protocols.
