QUETTA: Punjab Governor Chaudhary Mohammad Sarwar, who arrived here on a two-day visit on Friday, inaugurated the Balochistan’s Free Hepatitis Programme, launched jointly by the Sarwar Foundation and the provincial hepatitis control programme.
On the occasion, a memorandum of understanding was signed by chairperson of the Sarwar Foundation Begum Praveen Sarwar and Dr Gul Sabeen Khan from the provincial health department.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sarwar said providing basic facilities, including those pertaining to health and education, to the people of Balochistan was the top priority of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.
He said that under the newly-launched programme not only would Balochistan’s people be screened for hepatitis but free treatment would also be provided to the men and women suffering from the potentially fatal disease.
“I pay tribute to the Sarwar foundation and Balochistan’s health department for this historic initiative.”
He said the entire nation saluted the people of Balochistan for fighting against terrorism and working for the progress and stability of the country.
Mr Sarwar also met Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Agha and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri at the Governor House and discussed with them issues like health and provision of drinking water to the people of Balochistan.
He said the federal government was spending all its resources for welfare of the people of Balochistan. He praised the role of non-governmental organisations in providing clean drinking water to the people of the province.
The Punjab governor also visited the offices of IGP of Balochistan Rai Tahir and paid tribute to the police officers and personnel who were martyred in the fight against terrorism.
