KARACHI: Eight Pakistani scrabble players, including two nine-year old kids, would be competing in second online World Youth Scrabble Championship, which is being hosted for the second time following Covid-19 pandemic between Aug 7 and 22, Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) announced on Thursday.

“On the request of World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), Pakistan is hosting the 2nd online youth scrabble champion titled PharmEvo WESPA Youth Cup, in which 80 players from 14 countries of the world are participating. An eight-member contingent including two nine-year old players would be representing Pakistan in the scrabble youth cup,” Tariq Pervez, director Youth Program of PSA told a news conference.

Unlike last year the event will be an individual contest in which 14 countries across five continents will be taking part.

“All players are under 18 years of age. The players are divided into four groups according to their geographical location. Every player will play a total of 36 games over two weekends. After completion of 36 games the top ten players will qualify to play the final which will be played on Aug 21-22,” Tariq added.
