The Sindh government has decided to increase the number of ventilators and oxygen beds in all government hospitals in Karachi amid the worsening coronavirus situation.

"Thirty-two ventilators, 110 high dependency unit (HDU) beds and 40 low flow oxygen beds would be set up in Karachi by Aug 4," Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah said, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson.

In addition, a 100-bed isolation centre would be established in Malir for quarantining people who came to Karachi from other cities, Shah said.

The decision was made during a meeting attended by provincial health authorities, Karachi administrator, Karachi commissioner and medical superintendents of hospitals. The chief secretary said all Covid-19 beds in hospitals should be functional otherwise action would be taken against the medical superintendents.
