LOWER DIR: The medical fraternity, civil society and elders on Friday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to nominate late Dr Fazal Rahim for the presidential award in recognition of his valuable services in the health and social development sectors.

They made the demand at a condolence reference organised by the doctors’ association and the Timergara Press Club at the district headquarters hospital here. Medical superintendent Dr Shaukat Ali chaired the meeting.

Dr Shaukat Ali, Dr Nadar Khan, surgeon Dr Bakht Sarwar, paramedics association president Mohammad Rahim, journalists, social activist and others spoke on the occasion.

Dr Rahim, a prominent pathologist, died of Covid-19 in Peshawar a few days ago. Quran Khawani and Fateha were offered for the departed soul.

The speakers said Dr Rahim had played active role not only in the health sector but also in development of hospitals in Dir. They said the deceased had written several research articles which had got national and international appreciation.

The speakers said the deceased was a humanitarian and philanthropist and had always helped the needy people. They said Dr Rahim played multiple roles in society and the gap created by his death could not be filled.

The speakers also demanded of the hospital management to name a unit of the facility after him.
