‘West Asia Baseball Cup likely to be postponed’

LAHORE: The 15th edition of the West Asia Baseball Cup, due to be held in Iran in July this year, is likely to be postponed by the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) due to increasing Covid-19 cases in India and Pakistan.

Pakistan Federation Baseball president Syed Fakhar Shah, who attended an online meeting of the BFA on Tuesday, informed that while Iran is willing to hold the tournament the BFA is not in favour of

holding it since the Covid-19 situation in the participating countries including India and Pakistan wasn’t conducive.

The meeting was presided by BFA president Tom Ping and was also attended by World Baseball Softball Confederation President Ricardo Fraccari.

The BFA, Fakhar said, would give a final decision about the West Asia Cup tournament in two weeks.

He added that the Under-15 Asian Baseball Championship, which was scheduled to be played in China in August, will now be played in December or January.

The BFA also decided to hold the 30th Asian Baseball Championship in Taiwan in December.

The third Women’s Asian Baseball Championship will be played next year. Host and dates will be announced later.

The Coaching, umpiring and scorer courses will be conducted under the supervision of BFA. Host and dates will be announced depending on the virus situation.

The first University Asian Baseball Championship to be held in China this year will now be played in 2022.
