Two ‘robbers’ shot dead by police

LAHORE: Police claimed on Sunday to have killed two alleged robbers in an ‘encounter’ in Faisal Town.

According to the police, two robbers barged in the house of Haji Iqbal, a money changer, in C-Block, Faisal Town and held his son Salman hostage at gunpoint.

The police said when the robbers were busy collecting valuables and cash in the house, Mr Iqbal’s daughter informed her father, who was not home, through a message on his mobile phone about the situation.

On receiving the message, Iqbal immediately informed the police about the ongoing robbery. As a result, the police rushed to the spot and cordoned off Iqbal’s house and the surrounding area.

Police said that sensing that the house had been surrounded by police, the robbers opened fire and attempted to escape. They said the police party retaliated, ensuing crossfire that lasted for half an hour, resulting in killing of both the suspects.

The police shifted their bodies to the city morgue for autopsy and later registered the case on the complaint of Mr Iqbal.

Mr Iqbal later told the media that timely action by police resulted in the killing of the robbers, adding that all his family members remained safe.

Model Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Dost Muhammad said the police teams acted promptly and averted harm to anybody.

SUICIDE: A teenage boy allegedly committed suicide by shoot himself in the head in Ichhra on Sunday.

Police said 16-year-old Subhan was playing the video game PUBG on his mobile phone when his father admonished him for wasting time. At this, the teenager got dejected and shot himself in the head with his father’s gun. He died on the spot.

Police shifted the body to the morgue for autopsy and started investigation.
