DDWP clears Rs748m sports projects

PESHAWAR: The Departmental Development Working Party on Wednesday approved 107 schemes for the development of sports facilities in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the cost of Rs748 million.

The DDWP met here with sports secretary Mohammad Abid Majeed in the chair.

The schemes are part of the 1,000 Playing Facilities Project launched recently to set up new sports facilities and rehabilitate the old ones in the province, said a statement issued here.

The secretary directed the sports department to prevent duplication of schemes.

He asked the director general (sports) to ensure the availability of land records (fard, deed and other documents) and securing of NOC from schools, colleges, universities and other government institutions for the use of facilities by the people.

According to the documents, the DDWP approved 10 schemes of Rs87.36 million for Peshawar district, including rehabilitation of a squash court at Civil Officers Mess, construction of a synthetic tennis court at police lines, construction of one synthetic tennis court at the University of Peshawar, synthetic walking track at civil officers mess, construction of the badminton hall at the Benazir Women University, construction of synthetic tennis Islamia College University, a climbing Wall at Qayum Stadium and Hayat Sports Complex, rehabilitation of gymnasium hall at Hayatabad Sports Complex and provision of synthetic walking track at Peshawar Club.

A total of Rs75 million funds were approved for five schemes in Abbottabad, including renovation and repair of Karatay Hall and basketball ground in City Sports Complex, Banda Singllian playground, renovation and repair of the City Sport Complex squash court, construction of a cricket playground at Barahotar Union Council Namli Maira and construction of a climbing wall in Qunj football ground.

Also, the DDWP approved four Rs35.02 million schemes for Bannu, includes the construction of a badminton hall at the Postgraduate College, construction of a badminton hall in Bannu Township, establishment of a cricket academy at Postgraduate College and construction of a climbing wall at Bannu Sports Complex.

Approval was granted to seven Rs41.86 million schemes for Buner district, including construction of a playground in GHHS Kulyarai, construction of a volleyball court in GHS Chinar, upgradation of a playground at GHSS Ambela, construction of volleyball, basketball and badminton courts and a cricket academy at GGDC Daggar.

The approved projects also include establishment of an indoor sports facility for women at the cost of Rs99 million, a sports city at the cost of Rs20 million, Gabeen Valley and Sulatan Valley as tourist resorts at the cost of Rs31.3 million, and promotion, preservation and development of Kalash cultural programme at the cost of Rs97 million.

The DDWP also approved five Rs36.01 million schemes for Charsadda district. They include the construction of badminton halls at Hayatullah Shaheed GHSS, Rajjar, a playground in Shabqadar, a cricket academy in Prang area.

Four schemes valuing Rs33.43 million were approved for Upper Chitral district. They include the construction of playgrounds in Mastuj and polo grounds in Mastuj, Chuinj Mastuj and Harchin.

The forum approved six Rs29.43 million schemes for DI Khan including the construction of badminton halls in Nilli Kothi, a cricket academy in Ratta Kulachi Stadium, basketball and volleyball courts in Paharpur GDC.

Similarly, it approved seven schemes of Rs41.29 million for the merged tribal districts, including the construction of cricket grounds and a martial arts arena.

The other schemes to be executed with the funds include the construction of the Zangal Cricket Ground in Landi kotal, Chappari Cricket Ground in Jamrud, cricket academies in Bara, martial arts arenas in Bara, and a cricket academy in Jamrud.

The DDWP approved Rs38.985 million schemes for Kohat district, including construction of a badminton hall at Capt Zaheerul Islam Shaheed Stadium, a badminton hall in Meri Sport Stadium, improvement of Municipal Football Ground and construction of a climbing wall at Kohat Sports Complex.

Similarly, 11 schemes of Rs38.578 million were approved for Lakki Marwat district, including construction of a martial art hall at Old Female Education Office, construction and rehabilitation of basketball, volleyball and badminton facilities at GHS Jhangkhel, GHHS Tajazai, Government Degree Collage Ghaznikhel playground (football ), construction and rehabilitation of a playground, construction and rehabilitation of basketball, volleyball and badminton facilities at GGMS Machenkhel and others.
