Slight increase seen in Covid-19 cases in Pindi

RAWALPINDI: After a week, the number of Covid-19 patients slightly increased as 20 people tested positive on Thursday while 13 were discharged from hospitals.

However, Commissioner Mohammad Mehmood told Dawn that eight of the new patients belonged to adjoining districts and regions.

He said the administrations of four districts of the Rawalpindi division had been directed to continue checking for standard operating procedures (SOPs) in bazaars and other areas.

With the new patients, the number of confirmed cases in Rawalpindi district increased to 6,563 while 276 people have died and 6,118 others discharged.

However, 133 suspected patients are waiting for their results from laboratories.

As many as 169 confirmed patients are under treatment, including 116 at the Rawalpindi Institute of Urology, Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and the District Headquarters Hospital. Moreover, 53 patients are isolated in their homes.

The local administrations also keep 6,818 people on quarantine who had been close contacts of the confirmed patients.

According to official data, 7,893 people tested positive in the last four months in the Rawalpindi division - 6,563 in Rawalpindi, 578 in Attock, 468 in Jheulm and 284 in Chakwal.

As many as 276 patients have died in Rawalpindi, 20 in Attock, nine in Jhelum and 37 in Chakwal.

In the federal capital, 19 new cases were reported on Thursday.

Officials said three cases were reported from the Isolation Hospital and Infectious Treatment Centre, two each from I-8, Golra, G-10, F-11, Bhara Kahu, one case each from G-7, F-8, E-11, DHA-II, Shahzad Town and Alipur Farash.

The tally of confirmed cases reached 15,141 and out of the total 12,833 patients have recovered and 167 passed away.

There are at present 2,122 actives cases in the capital and out of these 23 have been kept in eight hospitals and the rest are isolated at their houses.

Of the 23 hospitalised patients, condition of seven is stable, nine are on oxygen and seven on ventilators.

No new case was reported during the last 24 hours in the Attock district and the tally remains at 578.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Asif Arbab Niazi said there were 38 active patients, 36 are under home isolation and two hospitalised.
