ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: As many as 10,645 confirmed Covid-19 patients out of the total 13,927 in the capital have recovered and there are at present 3,130 active cases.

During the last 24 hours, 2,048 tests were conducted and 98 of them were found infected, said officials of the capital administration.

However, five people died of the virus on Friday, taking the death toll from the disease to 152. The deceased were residents of G-8, G-7, I-8, F-10 and Bhara Kahu.

The 98 new cases were reported from different areas of capital. As many as 12 cases were reported in G-17, seven each in Lohi Bher and I-10, five in Rawat, four each in G-6, G-9, I-9 and Phulgran, three each in Bhara Kahu, Khanna, Sohan, F-11, E-11, F-6, two each in G-8, I-8, Tarlai, Alipur, G-15, G-11, one each in F-8, G-13, F-5, Shah Allah Ditta, Saidpur, Chirah, H-13, Jhangi Syedan, Tarnol, Kuri, H-8, Bari Imam and I-13.

In Rawalpindi, 36 people tested positive on Saturday while one patient died and 57 confirmed patients were discharged after recovery from government hospitals.

Officials said a 72-year-old man from Chaklala Scheme-I died at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU).

With the new patients, the number of confirmed cases in Rawalpindi reached 6,204 while 264 people have so far died and 4,442 others recovered.

At present, 1,498 confirmed patients are under treatment, including 692 in hospitals and 806 isolated in their houses.

Apart from this, 235 suspected patients were admitted in four hospitals and their samples have been sent to National Institute of Health (NIH), Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Holy Family Hospital laboratories but the results are awaited.

Meanwhile, 36 shops were sealed in Raja Bazaar and adjoining markets for violating the lockdown. The owners of the shops were also fined Rs50,000.

As many as 30 vehicles were impounded by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) while Rs49,000 fines were imposed on public transport owners for violating SOPs. Moreover, 19 vehicles were also issued tickets.

Commissioner retired Capt Mohammad Mehmood said the smart lockdown in Dhoke Khabba, Gulistan Colony and Range Road, Lane No 4, PIA Colony, was being strictly implemented.

He said 716 houses, one hotel and a marriage hall were sealed where Covid-19 patients had been reported in the last one week.

He said philanthropists distributed food among deserving people in the sealed areas.

Taxila

The number of Covid-19 confirmed patients in Attock on Saturday crossed the 500 mark as 11 more people tested positive, including a doctor working in the health department.

Moreover, two women aged 65 and 73 years from Fatehjang died of the disease, taking the fatalities in the district from Covid-19 to 24.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Asif Arbab Niazi said the number of active patients in the district was now 177.

He said there were at present 3,778 suspected patients while screening of 7,359 people had been carried in which 2,985 tested negative.
