PM wants to reform civil services’ structure: Ishrat

QUETTA: Adviser to the Prime Minister for Civil Services’ Reforms and Economy Dr Ishrat Husain has said Prime Minister Imran Khan wants to reform the civil services structure to ensure rapid provision of top quality education and healthcare and clean drinking facilities to the masses.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan will sign an accord with all ministers in which they will identify objectives of their departments and will set targets for government officers,” Dr Husain said on Thursday while presiding over a meeting in the provincial capital to discuss civil services reforms.

“The prime minister is using his expertise to control flaws and weaknesses in the country’s governing system and taking measures to improve the system,” the PM’s adviser said.

Speaking on the occasion, Balochistan chief secretary retired Captain Fazeel Asghar welcomed the steps being taken by the government to improve structure of civil services.

He said a task force would be set up in the province to give suggestions and ideas for reforms in civil services’ structure in accordance with situation and conditions prevailing in the country.

He stressed the need for organising training workshops for officers of the federal government.

“There is no need to bring experts in different fields from abroad for government services and instead the government servants should be appointed on top posts including as chairmen,” he said.

He also emphasised the need for postings and transfers on rotation basis.

“Officers from other provinces should come and serve in Balochistan,” he said.

Dr Husain agreed with the points highlighted by the Balochistan chief secretary and said that the government had been working on a mechanism to introduce e-governance system across the country.

“For the purpose of launching e-governance system across the country a national information board has been established and steps will soon be taken to introduce e-governance in local bodies’ system in Balochistan,” Dr Husain said.
