Walks, seminars mark Diabetes Day

ISLAMABAD: The World Diabetes Day was observed across the country on Thursday to give awareness to people that they should adopt healthy and active life style to avoid and fight the disease.

During an event held at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) a walk was held in which staff of the hospital and people from all walks of life participated.

Pims Executive Director Dr Ansar Maxood and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University Vice Chancellor prof Dr Tanveer Khaliq spoke to the participants and said that overall diabetes prevalence in Pakistan is 19pc which means two in 10 Pakistanis are suffering from diabetes.

They said the sugar level can be controlled through regular physical activity, a healthy and balanced diet, and promotion of healthy living environments.

Meanwhile, the Diabetes Centre also held a seminar and walk to celebrate the day at Murree Expressway, Phulgran. Dignitaries from various walks of life participated in the event including government officials, NGO representatives, and civil society representatives.
