Emergency declared in flooding-hit villages

NAWABSHAH: Sindh relief commissioner has imposed emergency in the dehs where over 50 villages and standing crops of sugar cane, cotton and vegetables on thousands of acres suffered serious damage after Main Rohri Canal developed a 120-foot wide breach near Yousuf Dahri regulator in Shaheed Benazirabad and Naushahro Feroze districts a day before.

Shamsuddin Soomro, the relief commissioner, decla­red emergency through a notification issued on Sun­day in deh Dall comprising talukas and district of Nau­shahro Feroze and deh Man­haro consisting of taluka Qazi Ahmed in Shaheed Benazirabad district

The large breach was plug­ged after 20 hours of hec­tic efforts while affected villagers in the inundated set­tlements were still waiting for relief and rehabilitation.

Shaheed Benazirabad com­mi­s­sioner and deputy commissioner of Naushahro Feroze who supervised work on plugging of the breach told journalists on Monday that food and other essential items were being provided to those affected by the breach.
