Candidate’s guards held

ISLAMABAD: Guards of a Punjab Assembly candidate were arrested for displaying weapons near a polling station in Mandra.

Mandra police ASI told Dawn that the guards tried to escape but a police patrol overpowered them and shifted them to police station.

The police took into custody a Kalashnikov and a pistol, the ASI said, adding that they were guards of an independent candidate from PP-9.

Separate cases were registered against them on charges of a violating ban on display of weapons.

In Rawalpindi, clash between PTI and PML-N workers was reported on Railway Station Road.

In another incident, PTI workers engaged in a clash which led to gunfight at Dhamial Rawlpindi, police said. As a result a man identified as Riaz suffered bullet injury and was shifted to a hospital for medical assistance.
