Man killed during armed robbery

RAWALPINDI: The principal of a private college was gunned down during a house robbery in Sadiqabad on Sunday.

Syed Umair Ali Shah, 38, was held at gunpoint by robbers who broke into his house as the family slept.

His brother-in-law, Ittefaq Ahmed Abbasi complained to the police that the robbers threatened to kill Umair if he did not hand over the cash and valuables in the house.

Umair’s wife gave them the cash and jewellery she had. The robbers then told someone on the phone that they the family only had their one-year-old son left.

Mr Abbasi quoted Umair’s wife as saying that the robbers then demanded that the couple hand over their son. She is said to have picked the child up and locked herself in the bathroom. The gunmen then killed Umair and made away with Rs250,000 and gold ornaments.

In a separate incident, a man was killed and another injured when they were attacked by their rivals in Ratta Amral.

Hameed Ullah Khan, the father of the deceased victim Habibullah, told the police that his son was coming home on a motorcycle with Zafar Shah from a jirga held to resolve an issue between Habib and one Ali Mohammad when they were attacked.

The complainant said one Majid Ali, Ali Mohammad and an unidentified man opened fire, killing Habib and injuring Zafar.

The police said one of the attackers, Ali Mohammad, was injured by a bullet he had fired himself. The dead and the two injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital.
