KARACHI: Police on Monday arrested a suspect who had allegedly attacked his former wife, her sister and the latter’s two children with acid on June 15 (Chand Raat) in Shah Latif Town off the National Highway.
The suspect, Rehmat Boota, had married Maria, 23, around five months ago, said Malir SSP (investigation) Abid Husain Qaimkhani. It was a free-will marriage. However, a month ago, they separated. After the separation, the young woman began living with her sister in Shah Latif Town when on June 15 the suspect, riding a motorbike, threw acid on his former wife through their home’s window. As a result, not only Maria but her sister Sajida and her two sons, Faisal, 6, and one-year-old Farhan, were also badly burnt, said the SSP.
Lower parts of Maria and Sajida were burnt and the children’s faces and other parts were badly affected in the acid attack.
The suspect had escaped from the crime scene. The police had registered an FIR (379/2018) under Sections 324 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against him.
Realising the gravity of the crime, the investigation police have included Section 7 ATA (terror charges) against the arrested suspect, said the SSP.
During initial probe, the held suspect “confessed” that he attacked his former wife with acid in “revenge”.
