Industrialists booked for violating minimum wage policy

PESHAWAR: The labour department has disclosed that 252 out of 650 industrial units operating in the province are violating the standing instructions of the provincial government regarding the minimum wage.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, following the directives of chief secretary Mohammad Azam Kahn, the department has initiated legal action against the industrial units violating the government rules for provision of minimum wages through scheduled banks to the workers.

The labour department, through its inspectors has started a campaign against various industrial units for ensuring compliance with the directives of the provincial government wherein the employers have been bound to provide minimum wage of Rs15,000 to each labourer through scheduled bank accounts.

It was stated that the raiding parties inspected 650 industrial units wherein 34 were found non-functional while 364 were paying wages to their workers through various scheduled banks.

The inspectors also reported 252 industrial units whose managements were violating the instructions of the provincial government regarding the minimum wage.
