Two suspects shot dead in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ with police in Korangi in the early hours of Friday, according to Awami Colony police.

They added the suspects snatched cash, mobile phone and other valuables from a citizen named Mohammed Kashif near Bagh-i-Korangi, Sector 10.

“As the robbers were fleeing, the victim raised hue and cry, grabbing attention of the patrolling police party. The police team chased the suspects and in an ensuing encounter, both ‘street criminals’ were killed on the spot,” they added.

The deceased persons could not be identified immediately.

A police officer claimed they recovered two pistols along with six rounds and snatched valuables of the citizen.

In another incident, two suspects — Naushad and Noman — were arrested after an ‘encounter’ in Nasir Colony on Friday.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Khalid Abbasi said their third accomplice managed to escape.

They were allegedly robbing people when the police party reached the spot.

Furthermore, one more suspected street criminal was arrested in an injured condition after an ‘encounter’ in Landhi.

Rangers detain MQM-H ‘hitman’

The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh on Friday claimed to have arrested a suspected hitman linked with the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi who had gunned down an activist affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement two decades ago, said the spokesperson.

The paramilitary force carried out an action in Malir City and apprehended one suspect, identified as Syed Dildar Ali, alias Sheesh Nag.

“The held suspect belonged to the MQM-H,” said the Rangers official.

He had allegedly killed Imran, an MQM worker, in 1992. Besides, he was also allegedly involved in other crimes.

Separately, the Rangers detained one suspect, Syed Ziaullah in Shah Faisal Colony. He was associated with the MQM-London.

The suspect was involved in targeted killings, extortion and other crimes, said the Rangers official.

Murder of driver

Police said on Friday they were investigating the murder of a man who was associated with a ride-hailing service and was shot dead in the Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday.

SHO Khalid Abbasi told Dawn Syed Abdullah Gilani was found dead inside his car near S.M. Grammar School, Nasir Jump stop of Korangi.

A single bullet was fired on his head. Investigators collected the spent bullet casing fired from a 30-bore pistol.

The police in their initial probe ruled out the possibility of robbery as the suspect(s) did not take away his mobile phone, money and other valuables.
