PPP to launch movement for Nawaz resignation

LAHORE: The PPP has decided to launch a countrywide movement to press Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign and expose his government’s inability to control electricity loadshedding despite remaining in power for about four years.

“After Panama verdict, the prime minister has no moral justification to cling to the office and resign forthwith. We have decided to launch a countrywide movement against the premier to force him to resign,” PPP Information Secretary Chaudhry Manzoor told Dawn here on Saturday.

He said the movement would also be against loadshedding which the PML-N could not control in last four years. “The movement for Nawaz Sharif resignation and against loadshedding will go side by side,” he said.

He said the PML-N had lied to the people over loadshedding issue and it had been exposed to the people who were cursing it.

Mr Manzoor said the PPP rejected the formation of a Joint Investigation Team to probe the Panama case against Nawaz Sharif and his children. “It would have been better if the Supreme Court had ordered the investigation agencies to probe this matter instead of tasking the job to the same institutions like NAB and FBR it had expressed its annoyance for not probing against the Sharifs,” he said.

The PPP leader said the PML-N leaders had become unnerved after the Panama verdict and started using foul language about the PPP leadership.

JI: Jamaat-i-Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch said on Saturday if the corrupt system and leadership remained in power the present debt of $65 billion of the country would rise to $120bn by 2020.

He said this while speaking at a meeting of the National Labour Federation at Mansoora.
