IGP, Nilor SHO told to appear before IHC

ISLAMABAD: The SHO of Nilor police station has been asked to appear before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for failing to arrest a suspect nominated in a land grabbing case, police and the victim said.

An order issued from the court of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani stated that the petitioner had sought protection of his constitutional rights because he was facing harassment at the hands of land grabbers. The respondents have failed to protect his rights.

Nisar Ahmed said his land was occupied by land grabbers connected to Bahria Town, and a criminal case was registered at Nilor police station on Nov 8. The order said no one has been arrested so far.

According to the order, notices will be issued to IGP Islamabad and the Nilor SHO, who shall appear in person before the court on Dec 5.

Mr Ahmed filed a petition in the IHC citing the interior secretary and the IGPs of Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as respondents.

In the petition, he claimed he had been informed that people affiliated with Malik Riaz were attempting to lodge FIRs against him.

The Nilor police registered a case against Mr Riaz, Bahria Town CEO Ali Riaz and suspected land grabbers after an order from an Islamabad district and sessions court.
