Police buildings, installations to be cleaned, fumigated

ISLAMABAD: Various police installations in the capital are being cleaned and fumigated in order to avoid the spread of dengue, police officials said on Friday.

The Centre Police Offices of the capital police has issued directives to all officers to clean and fumigate all their installations, including police stations, as soon as possible, a police officer said.

Some offices do not come under the jurisdiction of the capital police and will require permission from authorities concerned in order to be fumigated, he said.

These include the offices of the senior superintendent of police (SP) operation, additional SP security and a number of SP, DSP and ASP offices in government installations including those in the presidency, Prime Minister Secretariat, Prime Minister House, the Supreme Court, Parliament and Parliament Lodges.

Those buildings and offices which come under the direct command of the police include 22 police stations, six offices of SDPOs and SPs in the operation wings, Police Lines Headquarters, Traffic Headquarters, CIA Centre, Anti-Car Lifting Cell, Special Branch, over a dozen ITP offices and posts and the offices of DIGs, SSP security and SP Diplomatic Enclave.

So far, only a few police stations and a few offices of SDPOs and SPs have been fumigated. The police officer said after a request was put in, a team from the Capital Development Authority carried out the fumigation.

Instructions to keep buildings and their surrounding areas were also issued and cleaning and repair work has been initiated, the officer said, including the areas used to park impounded vehicles, drainage and supply lines and washrooms.

Kerosene was also sprayed on impounded cars at various police stations as they were rusting. The police was also considering moving those impounded cars the files of which were closed or the court cases for which were decided on.

The officer said that some officers were tasked with ensuring that water and waste does not accumulate in police buildings.

The remaining installations will also be fumigated soon, the official said.
