FIA arrests man for harassing woman online

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday arrested a man from Sahiwal for allegedly harassing a woman on social media.

A First Investigation Report (FIR) against the alleged harasser was lodged under the recently passed Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA).

The accused was arrested and presented in the court by FIA officials. The judicial magistrate granted a three-day remand of the accused to the FIA.

The accused has been shifted to Islamabad for further investigation by FIA officials.

The victim submitted a complaint to the FIA Cyber Crime Cell, alleging that she had become friends with the accused through the social media site Facebook, but the accused later blackmailed her for money.

FIA arrested the accused when he came to collect the money from the complainant.

Earlier, an assistant professor working at Karachi University was also arrested by the FIA for harassing a female teacher on the internet.

The accused was an assistant professor at the psychology department of the varsity, and was arrested earlier last week after a complaint under PECA was filed against him.

The professor was arrested for setting up fake social media profiles impersonating the victim.
